halli’s headphones highlights of 2017

In 2017 I obsessed quite heavily over a short list of albums.  Here they are, (roughly) in order of obsession.

Broken Social Scene || Hug of Thunder

I could not have been more excited for Broken Social Scene’s first new album in seven years – Hug of Thunder.  It hit the mark!

Cate Le Bon || Mug Museum

This album sounds like it could have been on vinyl in my mom’s record collection and I love it.

Andy Shauf || The Party

There is so much to love about Andy Shauf, and this album “The Party” (his other albums, also).  My favourite part though is the clarinet, somehow it makes you feel everything, all at once.

Kero Kero Bonito || Bonito Generation

There’s something really fantastic about KKB.

Angel Olsen || Burn Your Fire For No Witness

Quiet, pretty, angsty … sometimes that’s just what you need.  And, if I could tattoo that title on my heart….

Tennis || Yours Conditionally

These guys!  I want to join their band, that’s all.

Niki and the Dove || Everybody’s Heart is Broken Now

The first eight tracks of this album are my favourite.  Coconut Kisses? You Want the Sun? I could listen to them all day.  Also a great album for running.

Jay Som || Everybody Works

I started listening to this when I went to New Orleans in November and I am positive I broke a world record for number of spins in the shortest time frame.  This is one of my favourite songs from this album, and the video is better than cake.

Bomba Estereo || Elegancia Tropical

Running in the dark is the reality right now, and this album is the perfect underscore for it.  Plus, you can practice your Spanish.

New playlist: TOL’s return to sun

Oh, hello there!

I was starting to feel abandoned by the summer, but the sun is back – and man it feels so good!  What better time to share this blend of summery tunes that I’ve been piecing together than as we head into a long weekend of full suns across the board.

I really hope you like it. Happy BC Day!

P.S. For me, the last song is the chocolate at the bottom of my Christmas stocking 🙂

New Playlist: ‘Into Winters Groove’ from me to you!

It’s the middle of winter and we’re in the depth of the darkest days of the year.  Mornings are hard, evenings are kind of depressing.  If you’re like me, it means you’re probably spending more time indoors, and a lot of time dreaming about the sunnier days ahead.

I put together this groovy winter mix of some of the artists I’ve learned of lately and others who I’ve listened to for years.  It’s intended to match the mood of winter while providing some beats to move to!  It’s a good playlist for writing blog posts, cleaning, or taking a long walk with the crisp winter air kissing your cheeks.

I hope you enjoy it 🙂

Who are your favourite artists to listen to during the winter? Do you have an album that reminds you of winter no matter what time of year you listen to it? I’m always looking for suggestions!

Happy Wednesday!

– Halli
