In 2017 I obsessed quite heavily over a short list of albums. Here they are, (roughly) in order of obsession.
Broken Social Scene || Hug of Thunder
I could not have been more excited for Broken Social Scene’s first new album in seven years – Hug of Thunder. It hit the mark!
Cate Le Bon || Mug Museum
This album sounds like it could have been on vinyl in my mom’s record collection and I love it.
Andy Shauf || The Party
There is so much to love about Andy Shauf, and this album “The Party” (his other albums, also). My favourite part though is the clarinet, somehow it makes you feel everything, all at once.
Kero Kero Bonito || Bonito Generation
There’s something really fantastic about KKB.
Angel Olsen || Burn Your Fire For No Witness
Quiet, pretty, angsty … sometimes that’s just what you need. And, if I could tattoo that title on my heart….
Tennis || Yours Conditionally
These guys! I want to join their band, that’s all.
Niki and the Dove || Everybody’s Heart is Broken Now
The first eight tracks of this album are my favourite. Coconut Kisses? You Want the Sun? I could listen to them all day. Also a great album for running.
Jay Som || Everybody Works
I started listening to this when I went to New Orleans in November and I am positive I broke a world record for number of spins in the shortest time frame. This is one of my favourite songs from this album, and the video is better than cake.
Bomba Estereo || Elegancia Tropical
Running in the dark is the reality right now, and this album is the perfect underscore for it. Plus, you can practice your Spanish.
